The data for evaluation is gathered through computer monitoring of the R-R intervals using a chest strap sensor applied to the subject's body (Figure 5 a,b).
NOTE: Nerve-Express can use the "POLAR" Heart Rate Monitor or any other source of R- wave.
For example any Holter monitor with R wave output, also it can use PC - ECG device (by PBI, fig. 6).
First, the patient lies down (supine position) for view minutes (192 R-R intervals). Then, after a computer-generated signal (beep), the subject stands up and remains standing (upright position) until the second computer-generated cue comes on. This concludes the test. During the test the monitoring device downloads the test data into the computer, where results are calculated by the Nerve-Express system.
Nerve-Express can test up to two patients simultaneously, with special devices. The time required to complete the testing is seven to ten minutes, and the results are sent immediately to a disk and the screen (fig. 7).
Evaluating a patient's ANS State using Nerve-Express before and after any treatment or test can provide an accurate and reproducible evaluation of treatment efficacy. For example very important is optimizing the strategy of the therapy in cardiology - assessment efficacy of beta-blockers or in Clinical Pharmacology to assess influence of some particular medicine on Autonomic Tone.
